Eczema and Candida

automatonoverride:

Candida is a naturally occurring fungus that lives in our intestinal.  Ideally, it’s presence is kept to a minimum by the presence of beneficial bacteria.  Candida feeds on the sugars in our intestines.  However, due to the many foods and products in the Western culture that contain large amounts of carbohydrates, sugars, and high PH, the natural levels of Candida often get out of hand.

Here is another look at what foods can help create an internal environment which is ideal for Candida proliferation:

  • Sugar
  • Carbohydrates
  • anti-biotic use
  • birth-control pills
  • processed foods and foods containing preservatives
  • additives
  • coloring, etc.

Acidic foods also help set the scene, such as:

  • coffee
  • black tea
  • alcohol
  • tobacco
  • sugar
  • vinegars
  • excess fruit
  • Excess dairy consumption

Essentially, anything that comes in a box, bag, or bottle should be suspect as something that can create or exacerbate a Candida imbalance.  Eat foods as they occur in Nature if you want to be on the safe side, and avoid the naturally occurring sugars that exist in many fruits and even some vegetables (yams, juiced beets and carrots, sweet squashes, for example).

Many women think that just because they don’t get yeast infections that they do not have a problem with Candida.  What most don’t realize, however, is that vaginal yeast infections can be a fairly superficial level of imbalance.  Many women will say that they used to get yeast infections years ago, but not anymore.  Here is one possible reason why:  Because, if the symptoms of vaginal yeast infections go without getting proper treatment (of changing PH and blood sugar levels), the pathogen goes deeper in…to the organs and eventually into the Blood.  Vaginal yeast infections are certainly not the only way of detecting yeast overgrowth.

Often times Candida simply begins as a yeast infection, or gas and bloating with digestion.  This is usually when it is in the fungal growth phase.  However, what can occur is that, after a period of time, this fungus can grow into a root-like structure, which can eventually permeate through the intestinal wall.  The fissure that it creates is what we often call Chrone’s disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  The fissure in the intestinal wall creates the ability for undigested protiens from the intestines to pass through the wall directly into the bloodstream and then the Liver.  The Liver, being unused to these “foreign” particles of undigested food, reacts.  This reaction is usually in the form of histamine responses to protiens that never bothered the individual before.  This can happen in the form of repiratory allergies, skin allergies, food allergies, or all of the above simultaneously.  Again, a myriad of symptoms are possible, with each patient being slightly different, with each cause varying, and each cure unique.

Another way that Candida Albicens can present itself is by the appearance of eczema, psoriasis, acne, and other skin ailments.  There are several different reasons for this.

Because the skin has a very strong connection to the Large Intestine as well as the Lungs (in Chinese medicine, we call the skin the third lung, and in our medicine the Large Intestines and Lungs are a considered paired organs), we can understand why intestinal imbalances might reflect outwardly on the skin.  Similarly, the health of the lungs also plays a role in skin moisture, suppleness, and radiance.

Since Candida can often be a culprit in skin disorders, we must always look and see what is going on with the health of the Intestines.  Is everything being assimilated, eliminated and absorbed?  Are all the necessary beneficial bacteria’s residing there?  Are there any bacteria and fungi present that shouldn’t be?  Since the Liver is also in charge of purifying the blood, skin problems due to impurities in the system can also be reflected (and cleansed) through the skin. So, using the example above, we saw the potential of the Lungs, Large Intestine, and Liver as possible participants in skin disharmonies.  Beyond that, these three organs can easily act like domino’s, affecting the other organ systems that surround them.  There are other similar interactive scenarios possible involving the Spleen, Stomach, Heart, Lungs, Kidneys, and so on.

In general, Candida should always be considered as one possible cause when a person presents with skin disorders, such as eczema and psoriasis.  Treatment of Candida can be a long process, as this fungus is very hearty and can mutate, relocate, and shift it’s behaviors to accommodate diet changes and treatments.  Cleansing is usually indicated, along with dietary changes, and at best, herbal medicine applied.  (Please do not attempt a cleansing program without the supervision of a qualified practitioner, as not everyone will need the same type of cleanse.)

This may be a good time to reiterate that, even with Candida, each person will present with varying types.  Some will have cold constitutions, some will be hot, some will require cleansing herbs, some will require nourishing herbs.  The best way to begin treating yourself before seeing a knowledgeable practitioner is to cut back on sugars, high doses of carbohydrates, processed foods, acidic foods, and to introduce pro-biotics into the intestines.

Long time, no post.

Oy, things have been stressful. As most of us know, stress is usually the greatest cause of immune deficiency. I have tonsillitis right now, and that is really not okay with me. I’m still recovering from some torn ligaments in a couple fingers on my dominant hand… The cause of the stress since I am an art student and now woefully behind on all my work.

I know I frequently talk about how prescription antibiotics can cause more harm than good. Does anyone have any suggestions for home treatment of tonsillitis?

Q:i have this fucked up thing to,theres surely an easier way than this crazy diet

Anonymous

The ONLY way to rid yourself of candida, is to eliminate the cause. The main causes are: use of antibiotics without proper reintroduction of beneficial bacteria to the gut, passed on from mother to child, birth control pills, and heavy metal poisoning.

Parasites loves a candida ridden gut, and if you have never dewormed yourself, I hate to break it to you but you have parasites (along with 90% of the american population). Parasites can also cause a lot of similar symptoms, so it is possible that you just have worms (I know nothing of your situation, however.)

Your treatment will depend on the cause of your candida. I will warn you, there is no quick fix. Anyone who says that there is, is lying to to and/or trying to sell you something. Often the best things we can do for ourselves are the most challenging.

The main reason the diet helps people is because it is an anti-inflammatory diet. To put it simply, candida fucks up your gut. Your intestines are growing fungus. Your poor, poor intestines. It’s time to take care of them! The diet alone will not cure your candida, only ease the symptoms (after possible herheimer reaction) and help starve some of the fungus out.

Probiotics must be introduced (no matter the cause for your candida) after you have reduced candida levels to repopulate your gut. The fungus is crowding your intestines and new good bacteria have no place to live before you evict the candida. You have a whoie ecosystem in your intestines, and candida just wants to fuck your shit up. It’s an asshole.

My aunt swears by iodine (you would need 25mg daily) but I havent seen much benefit in my own situation because my metal levels are my personal cause, and I have no break from ingesting more metal. It would probably help me when I can be rid of my mercury.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I may not add new posts to this blog (so many already available to search through), but my ask box is always open.

Started a super-strict diet today where I can basically only eat cabbage and, like, a handful of other things. It’s supposed to be really healthy but my food options are few
but I discovered that Almonds/Macadamia nuts + sunflower oil + rosemary + salt = crazy delicious (seriously, do it. SO GOOD. I make my own but they sell it at Trader Joe’s and it’s the best thing, healthy or otherwise, that I’ve ever put in my mouth)
Also, I thought everyone was finally over Jeff Dunham; what gives, Comedy Central?

Yup, most boring diet ever.

Vigor and Cupcakes!: It's been a while, huh?

murilla:

vigorandcupcakes:

Things have been a bit crazy on my end, but I wanted to write a few updates regarding my health and fitness.

I have been exercising from time to time. I don’t track it nearly as much as I used to, because I have very little patience for sitting there and tracking all of my information. I have been going on Zombies, Run! runs with my sister and then going out for walks and jogs with friends and family when I can.

I took this semester off of school with the sole intent of getting my fitness back on track so I need to focus on it.

Food control has been pretty bad lately. I would say it’s because I’m broke, stressed, etc. but it really comes down to me not being willing to pay attention to what I am eating, which leads me to…

I found out that I have Candida. I haven’t been to the doctor about it to get “professionally” diagnosed, but after reading this symptom list, it is very obvious what is going on with my body. I don’t know the severity of the infection, but I suffer from quite a few of the symptoms so I would say I probably have it moderately.

On that note, I am going to be doing the cleanse in the near future. Since my birthday *party* is on September 9th, I am going to wait until after it because I know I am going to be drinking a bit, eating delicious cake and being generally care-free. When you’re cleansing, even one slip-up can set you back so I need to remove temptation as much as I can.

Until then, I’m going to try to be as conscious as I can and get back into the habit of drinking lots of water.

I already drafted out a meal plan for my first week of the cleanse and although it is going to be hard, I still get to enjoy roasted veggies and grilled meals that I would normally eat, just sans the sauces and dressings. Even though the first stage is very restrictive, I’ll be doing it for a maximum of 2 weeks.

Though I do have other birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas following after, I want to at least get through stages 1 and 2 before starting to reintroduceanything back in.

There’s a very good chance that I will never be able to eat the way I did before, but I really don’t think I want to. I have been overweight the entirety of my adult life, and I am sick of feeling gross and unhappy with my body. There is enough time in my life for me to dedicate time to myself and I am going to do just that. Although I won’t cut sugars out of my life entirely, I have been suffering from the symptoms of Candida for some time and think it would be best for me to get used to a more restrictive diet.

I’ve been debating with myself for some time about joining a gym and I have decided on the YMCA. My parents had me on their membership for some time and I loved it, though I didn’t take advantage of it like I should have. I found out recently that they will help people with financial hardship and as a full-time student I am hoping that they’ll be willing to cut a percentage off of my monthly fee.

I really want access to the classes and sauna, and aside from Lifestyle Family Fitness, that is the only local gym that offers it. Plus, the YMCA is a charitable organization and my monthly fees will go towards helping someone in need.

I think that’s it for now. My 23rd birthday is in 25 days, so I am hoping to drop a few pounds before then. Wish me luck!

I wish you all the best luck, and happy early birthday!

The Root & The Vine: i have a major sweet tooth and need to find a (somewhat) healthy alternative for when i have the craving for dessert!...

i have a major sweet tooth and need to find a (somewhat) healthy alternative for when i have the craving for dessert! any ideas? great blog by the way!

I think we should try and find out what is causing your sugar cravings. There is normally an explanation for everything, if we look.  Have you been tested for Candida? Candida thrives upon sugar and those inflicted have terrible cravings for the substance. The same goes for other internal parasites. Sugar acidifies the body. The worse culprits are the white sugars, syrups, pastry, chocolate, candy, fruit preserves etc.

When the body is acidic, it becomes a natural home to life and health threatening organisms. All life wants to survive. The survival of these organisms depends upon creating the best environment within the host, thus we get certain food cravings and the majority of them are for sweets or the obviously acidic - pickles. If we alkalize our bodies by recognising these cravings and resist from eating them, we begin to create within ourselves an environment which is hostile to bad bacteria and other organisms. So please do check into this. It’s always best to treat the cause rather than the symptom.

I’m sorry to say there really are no healthy alternatives to sugar. At present we have a choice between: worse, bad and marginally better. The marginally better include Stevia as a sweetener. You could certainly make your own desserts and replace the sugar with Stevia. As boring as it sounds, even a bowl of fresh fruit and raw nuts with a squirt of Stevia is better for you than a chocolate cheesecake. I know, I’m not winning any fans here. But you did ask. XX

I thought I knew what I don't.: Candida.

acupofteatosoftentheoccasion:

I think I have a yeast infection. It’s actually becoming plainly obvious that I do really.

So starting from today I HAVE to be on a strict anti-yeast diet. I really think its the yeast. It makes a LOT of sense.

There are a huge amount of restrictions on the candida diet, including fruits because of their high sugar content.

These bad foods are probably responsible for my numbing out and feeling like cotton wool in my head. Obviously emotions have something to do with it as well.

I’m not even thinking of the therapist. See how easy it is for me to cut off? Its VERY easy. I know that underneath I care for her and love her to bits but these emotions are harsh to deal with alone. I’ve learnt to cut off feelings from when I was very young. Its normal to me.

I’ve had to quit therapy because of money issues and now that I’m going to eat better, foods are going to become more expensive.

My stomach was fucking terrible last night but no wonder? What did I eat in the day? Beans, jacket potatoes with butter and then in the evening, a cup of tea. That’s yeast paradise!! So I gave my yeast foods to my housemates and some other foods that don’t bode well with a gut that has a yeast infection.

I found a free book on candida the other week. I want a more substantial book though. This book is nice and gives the basics but I want a thick book that covers a lot of recipes etc. I signed onto my local library yesterday so I might go back there this afternoon and have a look.

Hang in there.
